American Indian (Russell Means)

Russell Means served as the first Director of the American Indian Movement in the 1970s, garnering widespread support in his push to honor the contributions of indigenous groups through his work as a politician and Hollywood actor. Thought to be the result of an introduction to Warhol by the artist's West Coast representation at Ace Gallery, such portraits of Means present a bright celebrity persona of this pivotal activist.
