It’s Only Love and That is All
Spiller worked with many iconic graphic images including the emotive ‘peace symbol’; he loved the beauty of its simple graphic imagery. An instantly recognizable hieroglyph, conveying a universal message, painted as a direct response to the 9/11 terrorist attacks in New York, an acknowledgment of the pain to the place he called ‘home’. This painting is a telegraphic banner promoting Spiller’s wish for peace and to express the sadness and futility of war. Part of a generation who still felt the impact of previous conflicts and feared for the future, Spiller could never understand man’s inhumanity to man.
