Recognized for blurring the lines between Pop and Conceptual art, Ed Ruscha came into prominence in the 1960s. He concentrated on painting until sometime around 1970 when, disillusioned with the medium, he focused on printmaking and graphic work. It was during this time that he chose to experiment with single words (as seen in Raw [1971]) in his prints.
