A Ukrainian-born artist currently living in California, Valentin Popov was formally trained at the Kiev State Art Institute (Academy of Fine Art of Ukraine) and at the Kiev State School of Art. Throughout his career, he has worked in a wide range of media and subject matter, combining satire, reality, humor, and parable within his stunning works. In 2003, he shifted away from creating collages that displayed phrases, words, and historical references, which were often seen in his earlier pieces. Instead, he began producing numerous paintings of scenes from Venice and other European cities, often using his own photography for inspiration for the paintings. This solo exhibition presented over a dozen paintings by the artist.
