In this collection, Whitney Biennial participant Rebecca Kuzemchak opened a dialogue about the history and politics of language, labor, and power dynamics within the art industry. Her works Babel and On Spectacle are easily the two best examples of this exercise, as each work highlights the aggressive and labor intensive nature of the art market.

Rebecca Kuzemchak is a New York based conceptual artist. She graduated from Duke University in 2013 with a BA in Visual Arts, Psychology, and Religion, and earned her MFA from the School of Visual Arts in 2015. Kuzemchak recently showed her work at the Whitney Biennial with Occupy Museums’ Debtfair. The Debtfair asked artists to share their experiences dealing with the overwhelming amount of debt obtained in undergraduate and graduate school. Curators chose Kuzemchak to participate with 30 other artists from a pool of thousands of applicants.
