David Spiller: Back in New York

  • Long-Sharp Gallery Project Space 24 West 57th Street, Suite 606 New York, NY, 10019 United States (map)

In his solo exhibit "David Spiller: Back in New York", the veteran British Pop Artist returned to New York for the first time in decades. The exhibit encompassed almost a dozen paintings delivered to New York from Spiller's London studio.

Drawing from graffiti, pop, abstraction and expressionism, and using techniques from each, the 75 year-old artist and student of Frank Auerbach creates clear and strong works which accomplish his essential goal of "making paintings that put some magic on the wall." His works are full of optimism, love, and energy.  His use of fragmented song lyrics and stenciled words are painted onto canvases which are then sewn together to compose his instantly identifiable works.
