“Arrangement with Olive and Red is only 30 inches by 24 inches. Adjusting from large scale to small scale naturally reorients the way I move. The small paintings are not miniature versions, or impersonations of the large works; due to their size alone, I approach them differently. I am still concerned with the light and dark balance, but the smaller works naturally hold more color and form.
I think that this is a condition of my working studio… to be in conversation with all of the paintings being created at that moment in time, the smaller works ask for a different kind of expression.”
