Rosetta IX

“This etching plate was made when I was living in Mexico City and incorporates a few of my favourite things from the city: a lucha libre mask on the floor and a sink from the restaurant Rosetta in Roma Norte. The whole bathroom was actually a beautiful pink marble, which you can see suggested in the reflection in the mirror above the sink.

I worked in a new way making this plate, starting with soft ground first to create more textured marks, followed by hard ground, aquatint, and then printed using chine-collé. This plate was the first time I’ve used copper and now I can’t go back to zinc.”
